Art 9 Projects & Assignments
* This is an ongoing outline of projects specific to the Grade 9 Art Curriculum. Project due dates for this class are flexible so will not be included here.
DRAWING - Still Life Drawing in pencil. Should include a cross-section of the still life with min. 3 items. Attention to shading & detail. /15
DRAWING - Graffiti Tag Project - Students design a creative & unique "Tag," select color scheme and complete on black paper using Oil Pastel. Attention to incorporation of elements typical to Graffiti Writing. /20
DRAWING - Humans of New York - Mixed media portrait drawing. Students will select an image from www.humansofnewyork.com to use for their drawing. Finished drawing must use a combination of color and black & white and may use ink, pencil and/or pencil crayon. Drawings should pay careful attention to detail & shadow. /20
CERAMICS - Hand-built Teapot - Students will use additive and subtractive clay methods to construct a functional teapot. Teapots will be glazed and kiln-fired (eventually - pending the proper install of the kiln). /25
PAINTING - Color Wheel - Students painted a color wheel that included, Primary, Secondary & Tertiary colors as well as tints and shades of each. /15
PRINTMAKING - Linocut Relief Print - Students will produce a minimum of 3 prints using a design of their choice. Layering of 4 colors. /20
PAINTING - Cubist Painting - Students will apply their understanding of cubism by converting a photograph into a cubist work. Painting will be done on an 18 x 24 paper and should show understanding of color schemes through use of a slightly limited color palette. Color blending and paint application will be considered.
PAINTING - Some students in Grade 9 had the opportunity to work on a watercolor landscape painting.
