The Big Ideas
Creative growth requires patience, readiness to take risks, and willingness to try new approaches.
Individual and collective expression can be achieved through the arts.
Dance, drama, music, and visual arts are each unique languages for creating and communicating.
Artists often challenge the status quo and open us to new perspectives and experiences.

Come Prepared For Class!
I expect that if you're in this class, you are interested in learning about art, design, artistic techniques and determined to improve your skills. Creativity and Artistic Risk Tasking/Problem Solving will be components of this class. Coming prepared means the willingness to approach all projects with an open mind and the intention of completing the assignment to the very best of your ability. Oh...and bring a pencil.
Art Room Expectations
- RESPECT towards students, teachers, guests, the classroom and materials.
- Be on time and prepared to work. On many occasions, students will be able to enter the class, get out a current assignment and begin working.
- Class time should be used effectively and efficiently. Students will be assigned to seats if they cannot monitor their behaviour and use of class time in the art room.
- ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE ART ROOM. WATER BOTTLES (with lids) WILL BE ALLOWED. Any food brought into the art room is subject to be confiscated and disposed of by the teacher.
- You are expected to attempt and complete EVERY art project to the best of your ability. I Can’t is not a valid excuse and will not be accepted in the art room.
- Alternative assignments WILL be given to students who display unsafe behaviours or inability to use art materials appropriately.
