WRITING 9 - Outline
Welcome to Writing 9. The purpose of this course is to help you further develop your writing skills and to get you ready for English 10 next year. We will be focusing on developing and improving all aspects of the Writing Process including planning & pre-writing, drafting, editing, revising and publishing. As well as the basics - topic & closing sentences, parts of speech, vocabulary, descriptive language, sentence structure, transitions and mechanics, we will be looking at different styles of writing and how to approach each effectively. In the second half of this course, we will be focusing primarily on thesis development & essay writing.

Assessment for this class will include a degree of student autonomy. Each finished assignment will be given a standard of 5 mks for completion. Throughout each term, and as specified by teacher, students will be allowed to choose their best pieces of writing to edit, revise, publish and formally submit for marking. Teacher comments during draft stages and 1-1 work shopping will assist students in selecting pieces for submission. It will be expected that submitted work be properly published (see publishing guidelines below), and handed in with both a) the rough draft and any planning pages and b) the self-editing checklist (see below).
